Paddleboard Fitness

If you’ve been on the hunt for a fitness-oriented water sport, this is it! Stand up paddling, or SUP, is a great low-impact way to stay in shape. People of all sizes and fitness levels can participate. You can surf, race, workout, explore or just relax – all while you enjoy the great visibility above and below the water.

Exercise Physiologist, Panda Nove, has a degree in Human Movement and Health and is an accredited member of the Exercise and Sports Science Australia. On the physical benefits of stand up paddling Panda says

‘It has a similar effect to the balance and vibration platforms that have recently gained great popularity with current research outcomes in increasing injury recovery, core stability and general fitness outcomes.’

If you haven’t stand up paddled before, we recommend booking in for a Lesson with us to develop your technique and make sure you gain the most out of your stand up paddle sessions.

Those who come to know and love stand up paddling get an all over cardio, strength, balance, and endurance workout, often without realising it. In just one hour’s session you can easily expect to burn upwards of 300 calories.

So what are you waiting for, come down to any one of our OZ Stand Up Paddle Centres locations and get on the water.

Stand up paddling is immediately addictive in its combination of physicality and its 360 degree sphere of visibility.

Massage Therapist and Australasian College of Natural Therapies lecturer, Adrian Shortland is also a keen surfer and paddler when he has the time. Adrian says

‘Stand up paddling strengthens weak core muscles and can remove the rounded, hunched look as seen by office workers. It improves balance, due to the constant micro movement, subconsciously working all the small muscles from head to toe that we often never use when training in the gym.’
